Pre-Trip: Ouray Ice Climbing/Telluride Ski and Board Trip

Come learn avalanche basics with the DU Alpine Club and Friends of Berthoud Pass!  This trip is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those interested in the Winter 14er Trip, Silverton, and anyone who wants to explore more of the backcountry.  Come to this Wednesday night’s meeting for more info!

This trip is the reason I joined the Alpine Club, and it does not disappoint!  Come experience the wildest, most extreme ski area in Colorado for a day of guided backcountry skiing, and then a day at one of Colorado’s fabulous Gem Resorts.  This trip cannot be missed!  Price includes transportation, lodging, and guided lift tickets.  EXPERTS ONLY.  Avalanche Awareness Class HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

3/14-3/19:Spring Break in Jackson Hole, WYO - $325 for members/$375 for non-members

Gaper Costume Contest

Saturday @ Winter Carnival!!!

On Saturday up in Winter park, we’re hosting a little costume contest. The theme is Gaper. For those not in the know, here’s Urban Dictionary’s definition:

“A gaper is a skier or snow­boarder who is completely clueless. Usually distinguished by their bright colored clothes and a gaper gap, the gap between goggles and a helmet/hat. Gapers also do the “Gaper Tuck” which is an attempt at being a ski racer by tucking, however, it is done incorrectly with the poles sticking straight up like thunderbolts and lighting, very frightening!”

Basically, come dress like an idiot and win cool prizes for it.

The Alpine Club is headed to the snow! We will be staying two nights in yurts in Pearl Lake State Park, near Steamboat, Colorado. This trip is open to backcountry skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoeing. We will be gone from January 22nd to the 24th. $45 members/$60 for non-members, price includes transportation, lodging, snowshoes, and food.

New to this whole skiing and snowboarding thing? $97 a day at Vail slightly intimidating? Have no fear! Come with us for a day of fun in the snow at Loveland Ski Resort!  Price includes transportation, lift ticket, gear rentals, and ski lessons.  Priority will be given to beginner ski and boarders. TONIGHT, Friday November 13th, our good friends from Icelantic and Flylow will be having a season kick-off party at Gov’ner’s Park at 7th and Logan.  Free drinks if you know who to ask (me) and a ski raffle will be going on.  The shin-dig starts at 5PM and the raffle and a Toast to the Snow Gods takes place at 10PM.  See you there!

Also in Denver this weekend is the Colorado SnowSports Expo happening at the Convention Center all weekend long.  If you didn’t make it to the Gear Swap this past Wednesday be sure to check it out, reps from almost every company will be there and selling all this year’s stuff and more, plus a lot of mountains will be there giving out free stickers and lift tickets and whatnot.  There are some great deals to be held, and plenty of schwag to go around.  You can find more information here and get yourself a $2-off ticket coupon.

The Alpine Club will be offering a Wilderness First Aid Course on November 13th through the 15th here on campus!  We are offering this trip at a HUGE discount, come take ad vantage and learn how to stay safe for only $100!
