IWLS specializes in providing the highest quality wilderness education, outdoor leadership training and technical instruction.

Our programs take place in some of the worlds most alluring wilderness areas and include technical training in: alpine mountaineering, sea kayaking, rafting, canoeing, rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing/ snowboarding, backpacking and more.

IWLS is one of few reputable outdoor schools that have been accredited by the Association of Experiential Education. Accreditation by the AEE means that IWLS meets the highest standards for safety, risk management, instructor training, and programming in the field of outdoor leadership education.

Our instructors are widely recognized as some of the very best in their field and have practical leadership experience from around the globe. They are extremely well trained and have an uncommon enthusiasm for sharing their skill and knowledge.

IWLS also conducts a spectrum of technical rescue, First Aid, and professional training courses. These programs include avalanche courses, Wilderness First Responder, crevasse rescue, Professional Incident Response, swift water rescue, WEMT, and high angle rescue for individuals and groups such as: search and rescue teams, government agencies, outdoor guide services and professional educators.

*Scholarship will be offered to students who attend the slideshow and sign up on the IWLS mailing list. Includes full tuition for any 24 day Alaska course IWLS offers during the summer of 2010. Recipient will be chosen in March of 2010.

IWLS programs are available for college credit. In addition to scholarships, students can use Federal Financial aid, Americorps Education Awards, and the GI Bill to pay for tuition.
